About Us

I have been involved in dogs in some manner since before I was born, when my mother fostered rescue dogs and cats. She bred and raised AKC Boxers when I was young, and I often helped show them in local dog shows as a PeeWee Junior handler. As I got older, I realized that Boxers (and bull breeds in general) were just not where my heart lays.

At the age of 5, I fell in love with a 10-year-old owner-surrender German Shepherd Dog named Rex, and immediately became enamored with the breed in all that it is. A couple years later, I met a Borzoi at a dog show, and became obsessed with sighthounds, in addition to my fascination with herding dogs. Thus, Where the Wild Dogs Grow was born, and has been a long time in the making.

When I became involved in Carolina Dogs, I genuinely had no idea what I was getting into. I met one person who had two very young dogs, and loved that they seemed to be a marriage of all that I love about herders and sighthounds. 7 short weeks later, I got my first Carolina Dog, Northstar's Drama Llama, and boy was I in for a ride. I owe everything in this breed to that dog. Not long after, I was given her brother, Avatar, and their niece, Domino, and it's continued ever since. I can't imagine my life without the quirky creatures that have filled every part of my happiness and house.

My goal in Carolina Dogs is to prove that they aren't just a wild breed, and have deeply ingrained versatility and a willingness to work with their person. I strive to produce healthy, versatile, sound animals, as I know they are and should be, while preserving the history of the breed in all that it is.
